This is a picture of a tool used in this research. Called a "Speak IT", it is a kit that includes foam core boards from which to make communication boards and a set of standard photographs likely to be useful across individual patients and related to specific contexts found in the daily routine of
typical residences (e.g. meal times, bathing, visit to doctor, etc.), colored markers and temporary adhesive. This photo shows the kit closed, with 4 selected photos attached to the exterior of the case, which serves as a display board. In the upper left is a black and white photo entitled "Birthday", depicting children gathered around a table with a birthday cake on it. In the upper right is a photo, entitled "Portland Skyline", showing a piny valley leading down to a body of blue water. On the lower left, the photo entitled "Baking" shows a yellow baking bowl filled with batter and surrounded with a canister, eggs and other baking supplies. The fourth photo, black and white and on the lower right, shows an infant sleeping under a crocheted blanket.
