RUSH Policy to Ensure Web Page Accessibility
Staff of RUSH are very concerned that all pages contained on its Web site are accessible to as many potential viewers as possible. In an effort to enhance the accessibility of its Web pages the RUSH staff take the following steps:
RUSH staff design each page to ensure that it meets Priority Level 2 as established and described in the most current version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). For more information see:

Each page of the RUSH Web site is reviewed using the current version of the Web-based accessibility analysis tool Total Validator.
The RUSH website pages meet either priority level 2 or priority level 3. Any accessibility problems are resolved by RUSH Web Administrator and Web Author. For more information see:

In addition, Total Validator assists with checks points using U.S. Section 508 Guidelines. Section 508 requires that when Federal agencies develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology, Federal employees with disabilities have access to and use of information and data that is comparable to the access and use by Federal employees who are not individuals with disabilities, unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency. Section 508 also requires that individuals with disabilities, who are members of the public seeking information or services from a Federal agency, have access to and use of information and data that is comparable to that provided to the public who are not individuals with disabilities, unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency.

RUSH staff use the W3C HTML Validation Service to check HTML pages for their conformance to current W3C HTML recommendations and standards. While this conformance does not ensure accessibility for all people with disabilities, it does promote overall accessibility of the RUSH’s Web pages. For more information see:

In addition, for multi-media features such as PowerPoint displays, webcasts, 3-D images, audio and video components, Realtime movies, and other specialized Web-based applications, the RUSH staff work closely with individual viewers with accessibility challenges in order to identify and/or rectify accessibility barriers that may be inherent in certain designs or software applications.

Viewable by any Browser principles are applied to RUSH Web pages to maximize accessibility of the growing diversity of Internet users. For more information, see:

Medical and health information included on the RUSH Web site is reviewed to meet the principles of the Health on the Net Code of Conduct (HONCode). The Health On the Net Foundation has elaborated the Code of Conduct to help standardize the reliability of medical and health information available on the Worldwide Web. The HONcode is not an award system, nor does it intend to rate the quality of the information provided by a Web. It only defines a set of rules to:

hold Web site developers to basic ethical standards in the presentation of information;
help make sure readers always know the source and the purpose of the data they are reading.

We use the information we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our Web site, and to help us make the information more useful.
